<![CDATA[Green is America - Green High School Scholarship Project - Announcements]]>Wed, 10 Jul 2024 20:02:31 -0700Weebly<![CDATA[Inaugural Scholarship Recipient Selected - Shannon Bales]]>Sun, 22 Apr 2012 21:37:42 GMThttp://gia.greenhistoricalsociety.com/announcements/inaugural-scholarship-recipient-selected-shannon-balesOur Inaugural scholarship recipient is Shannon Bales.  Shannon is a Senior at Green High School.  She is the daughter of Robert and Mischelle Bales.   
             
Shannon Bales is an exemplary student at Green High School.  She is very active in the Marching Band and is a member of the Jazz Ensemble, Pit Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble.  She has been a Squad Leader, Section
Leader, the Junior Class Representative, and President of the Marching Band.  She is also a member of the
Spanish Club, the Girls of Green, Pep Band, Varsity Softball, Student Action Committee, and National Honor Society.  She has been a tutor for Spanish, Chemistry, and Pre-Calculus.  She has been a volunteer for Safety
City and Green Good Neighbors, and has served the community and her church in various volunteer capacities.  She is also a member of the SEGA Summit County All Star Softball Team.  
  
In addition to her numerous activities and athletic pursuits, she has outstanding academic credentials.  She was inducted into the GHS Wall of Fame in recognition for having at least a 3.8 GPA and scoring at least a 30 on
the ACT.  She has also been named a distinguished scholar and is in the top 25 in her class.
 
Shannon plans to attend Walsh University to study Physical Therapy.  She will be participating in their inaugural marching band and plans to pursue her doctorate degree.  
 
Shannon’s interests in history include feminism, the Civil War, WWI, WWII, the colonial period, and the
history of government.  Her interests in history are primarily due to her experiences in Mr. Tomecko’s AP
U.S. History Class and American Government at Walsh University.

Shannon’s winning local  history website entitled “Green Is America: Women in Sports” is on display  during this event and her research will become part of the Green Historical Society digital archive.   ]]><![CDATA[New Student Accounts Available for Presentations and/or Research]]>Wed, 06 Jul 2011 18:09:26 GMThttp://gia.greenhistoricalsociety.com/announcements/new-student-accounts-available-for-presentations-andor-researchWould you like to present your project as a website?  Would you like to store your research materials electronically?  The Green Historical Society will set up a student website account for you to use to store and/or post your work.  You may use the site personally to track your work and materials or you may decide to post all or some of your work - now or later.  The accounts available are Weebly accounts, which is the same type of web account used by the National History Day competition.  The online interface is very easy to use.  If you are interested in an account, please email Staci at webadmin@greenhistoricalsociety.com.  ]]><![CDATA[Green Historical Society - Outing to Visit Bev Kepler-Coss Collection]]>Thu, 23 Jun 2011 18:45:14 GMThttp://gia.greenhistoricalsociety.com/announcements/first-postThe Green Historical Society will be hosting an outing to visit the Kepler-Coss Collection of Green Local History at the Akron-Summit County Public Library Special Collections Department on Saturday, July 16th at 9 am.  Members and students will meet to caravan to downtown at Boettler Park near the tennis courts.  The Kepler-Coss Collection contains the life's research of the late Bev Kepler-Cosson the history of Green Township .  The description of the boxes and files available in the Kepler-Coss Collection can be found at

There are not many topics in Green's history that Bev did not begin to research and document.  If you are still struggling to select a research topic or you want to find resources for the topic you have selected, please join us on this outing.  If you are unable to attend this outing, you may contact the Special Collections Department at speccollections@akronlibrary.org or 330.643.9030.  I recommend reviewing the Kepler-Coss Collection Description (see below) and determining which boxes may be relevant to your research and then contacting Special Collections the day before your visit to ask to have the boxes of interest pulled for you.
